Art Supplies Needed for Students with Autism

My students need art supplies, such as glitter, stamps, beads, and stencils in order to foster their creative sides.

Hello. I am the teacher of a wonderful group of boys, grades 2-5. This class is specific for students with Autism; the students have needs that can not be met in the general education classroom.

Art is a dying component of school. As we struggle to deal with the limited amount of money in our budget, art is perceived to have little importance. Art can be a excellent medium for developing fine motor skills and sensory integration for students with autism. By putting a paintbrush or a drawing pencil in their hands and sitting them in front of an over-sized blank canvas, teachers can use their uniqueness to develop their art and their skills.

My students could benefit from being exposed to different types of arts and crafts activities. A main component of their curriculum is learning how to follow instructions, follow a model, and create a product. I try very hard to make these skills fun, and art is one way they enjoy practicing. Students with Autism are known to struggle with limited play or imaginary skills. Art is a way to encourage play and development of their imaginations. With so many students, at individual levels, your donation would help address so many different types of needs my students have.

Your donation will allow my students to practice and develop a skill, such as imagination, that comes naturally to so many of us. Art offers them a way to explore. It also will offer them a fun way to interact and participate with each other. Your donation will immediately be put to use, and enjoyed by the students in my classroom.
