Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Pablo Picasso said, "Every child is an artist." As a teacher, I can better inspire students to learn in all academic areas by including visual arts. Life and learning are enhanced through an education enriched through the arts. Please help get real art supplies in my students' hands!
The school I teach in is located in a neighborhood that is isolated from the rest of the city being that it is on the outskirts of an agricultural valley.
My school is a high poverty school, and all of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. The families I serve often times have few resources and do not readily supply basic school supplies, least of all art supplies.
My Project
I am requesting basic art supplies such as kneaded erasers, markers, oil pastels, scratch board, and wooden styluses so students can learn art techniques through different media. Half of my students are English learners, and are kinesthetic learners so experiences such as drawing and etching really give my students a chance to show what they know and stay engaged in the learning process.
I believe that art has the power to change students' lives because it enables them to express themselves without language being a barrier.
Without oil pastels, or scratch board my students will be limited to creating their art with crayons and the few markers they might personally own. It would be so exciting and eye opening for students to use real art supplies.
