My students need an art drying rack and two additional smocks for the Art Center.

My Students

My 4 year olds are limited to painting one picture per person per day in our Art Center because we have no space to let paintings dry in our room. They are also limited in the number of people that can paint at one time because we only have two smocks.

My students are from a low-income Title I school where supplies are limited.

They live in a high poverty area and do not have many opportunities to create art in their homes. We recently moved to a new school building in the middle of the year because of the severely dilapidated condition of our former building. Our new room is much smaller than our old room creating the issue of where to put artwork to dry.

My Project

With a wall mounted art drying rack I will not have to limit the number of paintings students can paint in our Art Center. I will not have to stifle their creative and artistic spirits by limiting them to one piece. With the additional smocks more students will be able to create masterpieces at a time which will foster a sense of community among the students. More students will get to share in the creative process together. Through their art projects they will be learning colors and how colors mix together to form new colors. They will also be learning pre-writing skills of labeling pictures orally and telling a story through pictures. They will also be strengthening their fine motor skills and proper writing tool grasp. They will also be able to experience more types of painting such as prints, sponge painting, roller painting, water color, and a variety of different types of paint.

This project is important because I want my students to know that art is important and that their creativity should not be limited just because our space is limited.

Our room may be small but their imaginations should still be allowed to grow as big as possible!
