My Students

My students want to explore, investigate, and analyze like a real scientist while having fun with rubberbands!!!

My students are 8th graders at a public school who learn best by getting hands on involvement in their learning experience.

I teach a diverse group of students ranging from special education students to honors students. For many of them, science is a subject that has always been challenging and overwhelming. However, a strong hands on approach allows my students to enjoy science and realize it is something they can do and understand.

My Project

I am always looking for innovative ways to teach my students the elements of experimental design so they can understand how science is conducted by scientists in the real world. I am requesting one Rubberband Cannon unit which will allow a class of 30 students to work in groups of three. Students will be able to manipulate variables of their choice, collect and analyze their data and all this while integrating math and science concepts directly related to our curriculum. The best part is, my students will have permission to shoot rubber-bands across the classroom, so you can bet they will be learning science and having fun while doing it.

By supporting this project, you will help teach my students scientific literacy, enrich our curriculum, prepare them for high stakes testing, and give them the foundation they need to be successfull in their 9th grade physical science curriculum.
