Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Struggling writers need to spend more time writing with appropriate support and I can make that time fun and engaging for my students. Our school is focusing on our students being better writers across the curriculum so they can be successful in high school, college and beyond.

As a resource teacher, I work with the most struggling students from each grade.

Each year students come to my class thinking that they don't like writing and each year they leave my class with wonderful books of their written work that they are proud to share with others. By the time they exit, they have clearly written out steps to solve algebra problems and practiced the craft of persuasive essays.

My Project

One way that I want to turn around students' attitudes toward writing is by offering them adaptive materials like pencil grips and wider pencils to make the process less physically painful. Also, by having fun pencils to reward them with will allow me to appreciate them for all of their hard work. The writing posters will offer them visual reminders of the writing steps too. The Longman dictionaries are the most student friendly I have seen and will help students with word choice and spelling. The book binding supplies will ensure that their published work is something special to keep.

It is powerful to express thoughts, ideas and knowledge on paper for others to read.

I want to empower my students and show them that what they think is important to share. Thank you in advance for helping me support my students and for helping them see how much fun writing can be. With help from donors like you and the Chevron Classroom Challenge we can get started right away!
