I am an AVID teacher at a suburban school in Charlotte, North Carolina. With the recent court order to stop desegregation with busing and the focus on community based schools, my school too has adjusted to this new school assignment plan and our student body has changed to more closely reflect the neighborhood surrounding our school. As an AVID teacher, this has provided me more students from single parent homes, on free/reduced lunch, and with no family history of college or upper education. Many of my students cannot even afford paper or notebooks required by their teachers, and we are expecting them to prepare on their own time and with their own dollar to take the SAT and ACT tests so they may apply and be accepted into 4-year colleges and universities. I am asking for a classroom set of ACT preparation books, a set of 10 practice test books, and an ACT teacher kit so that I may better serve my students in preparing them for college admission tests. Thank you for considering our cause and supporting the success of our future.
