My students need a DSLR camera for photo and video journalism.

My Students

The digital journalism class shoots a lot of video on pocket camcorders but does not have a DSLR camera that shoots HD quality video with microphone input.

Approximately 33 juniors and seniors in the digital journalism class are producing a multimedia website with a news show, talk show, profiles and how-to videos.

Our school is very diverse with more than 30 primary languages represented. The videos my students produce represent this diversity, helping build community in our school.

My Project

Students produce videos as part of one of five teams. They interview sources, shoot b-roll, get natural sound and record voiceovers so they can edit and produce interesting feature stories for broadcast shows. With only a few camcorders, we need more cameras to allow more production at a time. A DSLR camera with HD video capability will provide higher quality video as well as still photos. The opportunity to use a variety of lenses means students can use depth of field wide angle and close-ups.

When students are eager to advance their skills and they are prepared to take their work to a higher level, they deserve to work with the best tools available.

This camera will provide one of those.
