This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In order to prevent bullying we need to educate our children about how bullying can hurt. I wrote this project to not only to educate children about the effects of bullying, but to give them a safe place to calm down and focus on their feelings and thoughts.

I teach in a school with students from grades K-5.

The school is located in a high poverty area of Texas. My students come to school facing different challenges. I want the students to not only feel successful in school but in how they deal with their feelings.

My Project

I am trying to create a safe place for the children to deal with their feelings and minimize their stress. The students will use the calming carpet in the area to think of a place that does not have pressures from their friends. In the safe place I want to have anti-bullying books, an anti-bullying jar, a book on responsibility, one on feelings, and one on courage. Once students understand the effects of bullying, they will have the skills to combat it with knowing the responsible way to deal with it. It is essential that the students know how to have courage and understand their feelings. I want the students to have as much knowledge and understanding about why bullying hurts and ways to prevent it. That way they can be the ones to stop it in their lives and in others' lives.

Children are exposed to so many things.

I want to provide information to help them make the right choices. A spot to calm down, ways to prevent bulling (on slips of paper) in a jar, and books are a wonderful way to give the students the support that they need. Will you join me in this effort to educate and prevent bullying in schools?
