My students have not seen their art work printed in a professional way. To give them this opportunity, gives them the confirmation that their art is valid, beautiful, worthwhile and important.
Our school is a rural regional school.
Our students are in the 5-8th grades. All students take art every year, so any purchase made for the art room will benefit our entire student body of 400 students. Our students are inquisitive and eager to learn new things. They are creative and passionate about art and learning. In my teaching, I instill a balance between creativity/experimentation and skill with effort being the most important.
Good teaching and learning are in the forefront of our District's goals. The experience of students learning the skill, art history, and learning by doing is in line with the District's goals.
My Project
My students need a fine art printer for art class to print out their beautiful photography and art. In art class, we print. We print to color laser print printers several hallways away. The prints are printed on copy paper and the color often has bands in it. When the printers in the school are out of ink or break down, it could be days before they are up and running again. The copy paper is not a suitable material for art room projects. Oftentimes, when I do want their artwork printed professionally, I outsource it to a local 1-hour. This is tiresome process as extra time, millage and effort is put into this and then I have to submit receipts and wait to be reimbursed.
The printer I am requesting is a professional photo printer. My students should be learning how to use professional equipment & materials and they will be leaders in this world. By giving them is opportunity, you are giving them tools and experiences for life.
The other exciting thing we can go with this printer is use fine arts papers, and do print transfers.
I'm excited of the possibilities. I will be able to order the ink and paper myself and troubleshot any problems immediately so we can be up and running again in no time. Students will not have to wait for someone from tech or me to go to a one hour photo place, so they may finish their artwork. I'm excited to see their faces when they see their artwork and photography printed out in beautiful paper.
