A Jump Away From Fitness and Agility

My students need 3 sets of Olympet rings to improve their agility, eye/foot coordination, and fitness levels.

My Students

It takes hundreds, if not thousands of repetitions to learn a new movement skill. Even when children want to learn, to keep them interested and motivated as they pursue a new skill, variety in presentation and equipment are necessary. Thus, the request for the Olympet rings.

Energetic, eager to learn and active describes my 1st grade class.

Physical Education is a highlight in the week of these 6 and 7 year old students. They are in a K-5 school in a semi-rural area at the base of a mountain range. Some students are from farm families, while others have parents who are laborers and yet others work in the city.

My Project

With the addition of 3 sets of Olympet rings, my students will be able to focus on eye/foot coordination, as well as improve their agility and fitness levels. The rings will be arranged to provide footwork challenges utilizing the 5 jumping patterns (1 ft. to the same ft., 1 ft. to the other ft., 1 ft. to 2 ft., 2 ft. to 2 ft., and 2 ft. to 1 ft.). Students will travel, jumping in all directions with varying patterns and distances as they move from within the ring(s) to the next. Games will be also be created to utilize these skills in continuous, nonstop practice to increase muscular strength and endurance. The transfer of weight requires balance and body control which will improve with practice making the child more agile in a multitude of situations.

The problem of shifting weight to and from 1 or 2 feet in progressively more difficult situations presents a complex challenge for all young children.

The movement from 1 ring to another will develop their personal movement potential in the areas of eye/foot coordination and agility, and when done nonstop, it will increase fitness levels as well. These skills are basic to all areas of future development in sports/games, dance and gymnastics.
