A Finale to Remember

My students need a copy of Finale 2011 to create compositions for their general music classes.

My Students

Help us enter the 21st Century! Although it is 2011, our music room is from the 1940s, and we have just received a computer projector last year. It's time to have the software to help us see the music!

Our school is a very small rural school.

Our class population is high poverty (60% free/reduced lunch). Most of our students come from dairy farms and have to find practice time between school, other activities, and chores at home. Although we are a small school, we are proud of our heritage. There are four other class 1A schools in our county, but we are the only one with a band program. This school had a great tradition in the 80s and 90s of going to the state band contest and doing very well. We hope to build our program back up to that point.

My Project

Finale 2011 can do so many things to help students learn how to read music. As a teacher, I can create songs on Finale and paste them into a PowerPoint presentation. This way students can see the music they are singing. As the band teacher as well, I need a copy of Finale to create arrangements for the students. They also can learn to use the software and create their own arrangements. Being able to make their arrangements allows the students to take ownership in their own learning.

This project will reach students of all grades PK-12th by enabling me to create personalized music for students and work with the whole class as well.

It will allow the students to express their own creativity as they compose their own music.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
