My students need organisms to dissect to help them learn more about organs and organ systems.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I live in an area where the students do not always have options when they grow up. I want to get students interested in the medical field and science. The students will be learning about the body systems in depth and I want to give them a chance to fully experience each one with the frog and pig.
My students are amazing.
They work so hard and do their best even though they face many challenges. Being a urban school they deal with outside factors that many of us do not never had to experience. Also most of my students are bilingual and English Language Learners which can be challenging at times, especially with science. I want to give them experiences that they will always remember and you can help make this happen.
My Project
I go very in depth with my students and they learn each body system before they ever dissect. This allows the students to really know what they are looking at when they open up the animals. It is amazing to hear the students talk about how they see the kidneys and know exactly what their purpose is and location. I hope that by doing this activity some of the students will realize that they want to enter the medical field and create a life better for their families. I have asked for frogs and pigs to dissect because they are great animals to dissect. Frogs have very intricate leg muscles and are a nice first dissection. The pig is great because the organs in the pig look like they would in a human. I feel that these two animals will help the students really learn the body systems and will also be a lot of fun.
You will not just be helping a class in science but allowing students to see what jobs are available and that they can attain these things.
You will be providing a way for children to be hopeful that their future can be great.
