My students do many inquiry based labs. They use their knowledge and imaginations to solve problems. A Makerbot would allow them to take the next step in looking for solutions. They will be able to learn how to design and build a 3D prototype.
I am a seventh grade life science teacher.
I also teach robotics to 7th and 8th grade students. My students come from diverse backgrounds. They have different levels of experience with technology. They do not have the same exposure to technology at home. My students have a range of academic needs. But despite the differences, they do have things in common. They are excited to use technology to learn. They are proud of their projects and love to share them. They are curious about science and the world around them. My hope is to provide them with equal opportunities to use the latest technology.
My Project
My students are very creative. A Makerbot 3D printer for my robotic students would allow them to learn how to design parts they need and then create them with the 3D printer. My students get very excited with their robots but are often frustrated because they do not have the part they need. With a 3D printer they could learn to design a prototype part they need. My robotic students would benefit by learning the programming required for 3D printing. In my life science classes, a 3D printer would allow students to create things that are too small to see like the organelles of a cell. They could create models of fossils for evolution or different organism hearts for comparison in zoology. A Makerbot 3D machine would inspire my students to create their own projects limited only by their imagination.
A Makerbot 3D printer will put the finishing touches on projects.
Students will be able to see their ideas become real. They will be able to physically touch specimens that are microscopic in size. They will be able to further solve problems. Our students now are the scientists, researchers, engineers of the future. A Makerbot will help to prepare them for a creative future.
