This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom consist of eager students who are willing to learn. My goal is to have my students cultivate a greater love for reading. K. DiCamillo stated " Reading should not be presented to children as a chore. It should be offered to them as a precious gift." It’s a gift that no one can take away.

My students are eager to learn, creative and full of energy.

They are a diverse group of children that come from a low socio-economic neighborhood. Each child is unique in their own way. They have their own unique learning style. Many of my students have learning disabilities and are English language learners. Our school is a Title 1 school, meaning that more than half of the students are low-income and don’t have the extra support and resources needed for them to reach proficiency levels in all of the core academic areas.

My Project

The major challenge in our school is not having enough resources and technology to address our students’ needs. Since most of my students are visual and auditory learners, I want to use the iPad to engage them in classroom activities. Activities such as using digital e-books to use during read alouds. As well as have students use it during DEAR time to independently read and become engaged in their learning. Many apps can be downloaded from the Apple store to be put on the iPad so that it will help the students become more engaged in their learning and help build on skills of weakness, such as fluency and comprehension. I can also use the iPad to help my students build skill in other subject area such as math.

The donation will improve my classroom because the use of the iPad will help my students become more engaged in their learning and meet the needs of all the diverse learners in my classroom.

The iPad will create an environment that engages and make students comfortable as learners so they can be active participants in their education. The use of the iPad would help support my students’ learning and prepare them to become lifelong learners of the 21st century.
