Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Technology, like art, is a soaring exercise of the human imagination," said sociologist and educator Daniel Bell. There are no limits to what my art students can accomplish with a combination of both!
I teach art in Texas to 800, low socio-economic students from Pre-kindergarten-5th grade, who attend art class for 45 minutes once every six days.
and that is never enough time! They are always asking for more! Due to this, I open my art room for 30 minutes before the school day begins and the students come in droves! They use that time to complete projects, research artists or show me artwork that they have completed at home.
My Project
Art is not just paper, paint and clay anymore. Art becomes more and more technological as we move further into the 2000's. As school budgets are spent on technology, the majority of this is spent for classroom use, not the art room.
Tablets would be a wonderful addition to our art room. Students would be able to photograph artwork that they have created and manipulate it on a tablet, using a variety of paint apps. They could create art directly on the tablet and save it to their personal Google account, which could then be used in their classroom. Research could be done whenever a student had a question about an artist, a painting or a medium.
The possibilities are endless!
Technology is an important part of the art room, and tablets would help my students begin using today's devices to create and manipulate art, anytime they wanted to.
With this purchase, a whole new world would be available to my budding artists.
