2013 Children's Choice Award Nominees!

My students need 1-3 copies each of the 2013 Washington Children's Choice Picture Book Award Nominated books and the 2013 PNLA Young Readers Choice Award Nominated books.

My Students

Empowering students by allowing them to choose their favorite books for an award fosters the development of a love of reading and quality literature. In order for my students to be able to participate in children's choice awards, they need access to the books nominated for the 2013 awards.

My students are very enthusiastic about reading and learning.

Our slogan is that we "Model Excellence", and I want to do as much as I can to provide them with an outstanding library filled with excellent fiction and non-fiction resources that they are clamoring for. This project would enable my students to read popular titles that are nominated for the 2013 Pacific Northwest Library Association's Young Reader's Choice Award, a children's choice award that is for students in 4th-6th grades in Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, and Washington. The Washington Children's Choice Picture Book Award is for students in grades K-3. Both awards are aimed at fostering a love of quality literature and the notion that every reader should be able to choose books to read for pleasure.

My Project

The titles included as part of the 2013 PNLA Young Readers Choice Award and WCC Picture Book Award reflect a variety of genres and reading levels that provide appeal to many students. Through these stories, younger students will be introduced to new genres of literature and older students will read books that will teach them about areas of the world they are unfamiliar with, amuse them, and open their imaginations to worlds of fantasy. All of these books will become the most sought after materials that students want to read. In addition to encouraging students to read for pleasure and to develop a personal repertoire of favorite titles and genres, these programs provide an opportunity for students to recommend favorite books to each other and create a shared literary experience with one another.

While it's great to witness students clamoring for award nominated books, it's even more wonderful to see them recommend these books to their friends and to hear them tell one another why a particular title was so enjoyable or why their classmates should read them.

Participation in these awards encourages this to happen and instills a love for books and reading in a powerful way.
