My Students

Too many avid readers lose interest in reading by the time they reach 12th grade. I am starting a 12th grade book club that I hope will remind them what it is like to find a book they cannot put down. Hunger Games is that kind of book.

These high school seniors need the opportunity to read engaging books that give them a new perspective and feed exciting discussions.

I am excited about letting them discover the fun of being involved in informal book clubs, where reading can be more social.

My Project

Hunger Games is an edge-of-your-seat adventure. Set in a future world where Survivor-type reality TV is taken to an all new level, it is the story of a determined teenage girl who manages to keep her humanity in a life-or-death competition. Her choices and the values of those around her will get students talking and reflecting on their own perspectives.

Older students will benefit from this engaging read and the conversations it will inspire.

Many gave up reading when they finished the Harry Potter series, I want them to see themselves as life-long readers.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
