My Students

Do you remember your first attempts at learning how to read? My kindergarten students are just beginning their journey of learning how to read!

I teach 19 fantastic kindergarten students.

Many of my students enter kindergarten knowing only a few letter names. Learning letter names and sounds is the beginning step for learning how to read. In order to teach my students to identify letter names and sounds, it helps to have high-interest, engaging materials. Due to budget constraints, my school does not have the funds available to allow me to purchase these important learning materials.

My Project

I am requesting 8 different alphabet activities that are all bright, colorful and hands-on. The Literature Based Alphabet Center has bright coconut tree mats and colorful chunky alphabet letters to place on the tree mats. This center will be used after I read the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to my students. The Lowercase Dough Stampers will allow my students to practice learning their letters by using playdough. They will get to paint as they practice their letter names when they use the Upper and Lowercase Alphabet Painters. Activities such as these capture a kindergarten student's interest and help to ensure that they will master learning their letter names and sounds.
