Building a Love for Books

My students need book shelves and book boxes for our classroom library.

My Students

Our class library is struggling! We do not have enough book shelves to hold all of our books and it is really hard for my students and myself to find a certain book or genre in the mess.

My students are highly motivated, eager to learn and excited about life.

About half of them speak English as their first language and the rest speak a language other than English when they are at home. We are located in a big city in Wisconsin. More than 70% of the students qualify for free/reduced lunch.

My Project

Right now our class library is a mess. There are a few bookshelves in the classroom, but not enough to hold all of the books in our class library and there are not enough resources at the school to get more bookshelves. I am requesting book shelves and magazine boxes so that my class can help me build a nice class library. We are going to organize books by genre and make it easy for all students to find something that they want to read.

This project is important to me because I feel that books are treasures, just like my students are.

Our class library (our whole room in general) should be a welcoming and easy to use space. Many of the kids in my class do not have access to age appropriate books in their home and I want to make it as easy as possible for them to find something to read when they are at school.
