My Students

Our children come from diverse backgrounds - from very well off to barely surviving. They all have stories to share... I want them to be able to do it in a beautiful and fulfilling way.

My students come from the inner city as well as farm towns.

They form a very unique and diverse culture that is all their own. We have kids from every race, religion and culture and we work so hard to let them know that their character and their work ethic are the things that will get them recognized for their accomplishments. Our school is very underfunded and it is hard to come by the "extras" that can help teachers to show students that they are special and appreciated for what they offer. I am so proud of them and want to help them to produce works of writing that they can feel proud of.

My Project

I am asking for donations of materials that will ensure my students have the ability to publish their writing materials. Printer ink and paper are absolute essentials. We don't have the money for these little things. Also, I am hoping to create a monthly magazine journal with the students to showcase their writing. Having a scanner and a binding machine (in addition to the paper and ink) will allow us to create keepsake-worthy products of which the kids will be proud enough to bring home and share with their families.

I take such pride in sharing the work I created in school when I was a kid.

My children get such a kick out of going through it with me. I want my students to have the same feelings. I want to help them create something of quality that will last until they are old enough to share it with their children. I think projects like this fuel their passions for writing and in today's world of MCAS and standardized testing, we need to make sure the students are invested in their writing.
