My Students

Help my first graders discover how much fun learning math can be! Math can be a challenge for many students, but with hands-on math games, ALL my students can become successful problem solvers.

My students are hard working and silly.

They are active learners who need more than a worksheet to become strategic thinkers. Our school is a typical Midwestern, suburban school that has faced budget cuts, like so many other schools in the nation. My students deserve to have the very best resources to help them become the very best they can be.

My Project

This year I'm implementing a Math Workshop approach to math instruction, but my classroom lacks the necessary tools needed for optimum student success. Each day students rotate through three stations - "teacher time," where they receive direct instruction with me, "seatwork," where they can independently practice a math skill, and "math games," where they can cooperatively experience the math skill. Through Math Workshop students receive differentiated math instruction for each skill. However, because of the lack of math games in my classroom, students aren't getting subtraction games, money and time games, fraction and geometric shape games, and problem solving games, my students will not only have fun with math, but become strategic problem solvers and mathematical thinkers! he opportunity to experience the fun and excitement of math.
