Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There are many burdens that face today's students. One of the hardest to deal with are disabilities. On our campus, we have what we lovingly call our special needs students who do not know how to care for and grow their own garden.

My students that will be participating in this project are both the special needs students as well as my Science Club students.

The special needs students that this garden will benefit the most are the students who are very low functioning. They are unable to attend class with the other students of the school and have a designated hallway in which their classes are. These students are very sweet and crave new experiences that the vegetable garden will provide for them. My science club students are students who were not interested in science until they had me in class and I convinced them to join science club. They have great hearts and humble beginnings. They are very eager to make a difference in others lives, especially their fellow students with disabilities.

My Project

With the resources that I am requesting, my Science Club students will be able to learn humility and patience while aiding the Special Needs students of our school in digging, planting, and cultivating a garden. They will also learn important science concepts associated with gardening while helping the special needs students learn how to become more coordinated and develop responsibilities. Both groups will be able to watch as something they created comes to fruition and learn that they are important and capable of making a difference.

Donations to this project will have a huge impact on not only Special Needs students and Science Club students but will also make a large impact on the entire student body as well as the teachers of the school.

The Special Needs students will be able to cultivate their own vegetables that they will be able to use in their cooking class to inspire the faculty and student body to grow their own gardens and participate in school activities.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
