The 6th grade elementary students I teach come from a variety of ethnicities, backgrounds and cultures. They enjoy a good story, visiting the library, and reading both traditional paperback and eBooks. While our brand new school's funding went towards integrating new technologies, basic classroom libraries were left bare. Although I have a small set of classroom books to offer my students, these have been worn down and damaged from several years of teaching. I want to replenish my collection with updated, high-interest, engaging material which will keep my students motivated to read for fun! Part of their "40-book Challenge" is to read a variety of genres throughout the school year. While our school library has selections, it is still very small and needs to be shared between 1,000 kids! Students need to rely upon bringing their personal books from home, but some do not have home libraries of their own. How easy would it be to have instant access to books in the classroom!
