Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I teach a wonderful class of 16 third grade children in an inner-city, high-need school near Chicago's Cabrini Green housing project. My children work incredibly hard from morning through afternoon, but have been unable to do their best this month due to the cold weather in Chicago. Our building does not have adequate heating and we have been told to just bundle up and get used to it for the long winter. However, my children often do not have sufficient clothing to bundle up in! Many of them have only a few items of clothing in total at home and these are often only t-shirts or thin cotton shirts, matched with handed down "uniform" pants or jeans. I have brought my own spare throw blankets and sweaters from home to supplement, but there are not enough to go around. We are freezing! Please help us warm our bodies so we can learn at full steam by funding blankets and sweatshirts and small, low energy space heaters for our very cold room.
