I am the art teacher at a year round elementary school in North Carolina. I teach art to 39 classes of students in grade Pre-K through 5. Part of the focus of my curriculum is art history. We often discuss the work of famous artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet. We also talk about the lives and work of artists who may not be household names, such as Mary Cassatt and Diego Rivera. My students love to learn about artists and their lives because sometimes an artist's life story relates to their own life in some way. Having a classroom library of durable and age-appropriate artist biographies will help all of them research and learn about the artists they are interested in while also helping to keep them excited about reading. I am interested in having this library in particular because of my fifth graders, who are working hard to be able to intelligently discuss their own work and the work of others. A classroom library of artist biographies will be an invaluable tool for them! The Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists Series by Mike Venzia is appropriate for grades K-5 and is available in durable hardback books, which will be perfect for my classroom. This request is for the first third of that series, which includes biographies of Frederick Remington Pierre August Renoir, Diego Rivera, Norman Rockwell, Henri Rousseau, Georges Seurat, Titian, Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent van Gogh, Diego Velazquez, Johannes Vermeer, Andy Warhol, James McNeill Whistler, and Grant Wood.
