This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
When you think back to when you went to school, what lesson stands out most? Isn't it amazing how you can still remember that trick to simplify fractions? Or how to remember whether to use "affect" or "effect"? I would like my students to not just memorize math concepts, but to internalize them.
Most of my students have grown up in poverty in a small town in rural Mississippi.
But for being dealt such a tough hand, they are amazingly resilient, good-hearted, optimistic, confident, and determined. They strive for success in academics, athletics, and in extracurricular activities. Most of my students hope to continue their education after graduating from high school by attending universities or trade schools or enlisting in the armed forces.
My Project
With all of its notation, laws, postulates, and formulas, Geometry can be a very abstract subject to understand. An LCD projector can greatly enhance the learning experience in our classroom by helping students visualize what is being taught. We would discover the "why" behind concepts dealing with lines, angles, and shapes (both two- and three-dimensional), and not just the "what".
This project is very important for my students to get a firm grasp of skills that can be applied in numerous positions and situations.
It will help ensure that my students are internalizing mathematical concepts so that they can be recalled for years to come.
