My students come from a very diverse, inner-city, urban community. The district that provides basic public education to these students, however, it seems they only offer the bare minimum for supplies and materials. Many of my students are not exposed to music or the arts until they are offered electives in high school. For many of them, the first time they have ever picked up an instrument or made music has been in my class. The students realize their teachers are doing all they can, but that we are very limited. I am continuously inspired by student ambition and ideas, but imagine how much more opportunity they would have if only they had the right equipment?! We recently were given some computers and keyboard controllers to offer a Digital Music Recording class, but we need some equipment to fully simulate the professional music performing setting for students to experience for themselves.
