My students are a diverse group of learners who all love to read with teachers, with each other, and by themselves. This listening library with leveled readers will allow us to support independent and shared reading experiences for these young students.
My students are a diverse group of kindergarten students from many different zip codes, diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and a wide range of abilities.
They acknowledge and appreciate each other for who they are and they love to work with all of their peers whenever possible. Their love of learning and their love of being self-sufficient means they will thrive at this listening center.
My Project
I am requesting an iPod that students can use to find the books they want to hear. So the listening experiences can be shared with peers, I am requesting a headphone splitter. Each student will also have his own headphone set. In addition to the listening center tools, I am requesting books at a variety of reading levels to complement the audio books we currently have in the classroom.
My students want to read books all day long, but I cannot read to them all day.
All students can have daily access to the listening center so they can hear fluent reading and independently (or with a partner) enjoy reading a book. This center will dramatically increase the time my students can spend in a structured reading experience every day and will certainly impact their reading outcomes.
