Could you imagine not having the basic essentials for a classroom. Paper is something you take for granted. It is a school so they must already have it, but that is not always the case. We are out!
I teach first grade at a Title One School.
Our students come from low income families as well as the local shelter. Eighty percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch. They come from all walks of life and have all sorts of learning abilities. When we send home the supply lists at the beginning of the year you just hope that the parents can afford to send some of it. Most of the time little comes in and after that you don't get much of anything. So if you run out in the middle of the year our parents definitely can't afford to pay full price for things.
My Project
I am asking for lots of paper as well as some glue and tape. This year we are being given $100 to purchase classroom supplies, such as, construction paper, handwriting paper, copy paper, glue, tape, etc. As you can imagine the budget does not stretch far and these are not items that we can ask the parents to supply nor could most of them. There for we are left to either purchase these things out of our own pocket or go without. Our students are learning through thinking maps and writing. We do a lot of projects and we love to display their work so they can be proud of what they are doing. Unfortunately by the middle of the year we do not have the supplies to continue to create this amazing work. I am asking for enough paper to supply 4 classrooms for the year. I work in a pod of 4 classes and we all share our supplies.
This project means so much to me as well as my fellow teachers because we love to see the excitement in our students faces when they complete these projects.
They are so excited to see their work hanging in the hallways and rooms. Please help us continue to do these projects with our students. Thank you for taking your time to read our request.
