My Students

Music is in the world all around us, and we want our students to be able to participate in it fully. For them to truly understand sounds, rhythm, and the sense of community created through music, they'll need instruments to play!

Our charter school is full of bright and hard-working students who know the importance of achieving their goals.

The rising 6th grade class already has their sights set on excellent colleges, even though most of our students cannot afford the supplies, including instruments, that they'll need to be truly competitive. We are working to show the world that we can be smart, thoughtful, and emotive as we work toward our goals of 100% college attendance, and amazing careers and lives!

My Project

Our students are bright, motivated, and ready for great academics and music! They've started working on music reading and rhythm counting, but now it's time for them to sing like a choir and play like a band! Most of our students' families cannot provide an instrument for them, so through generous community donations, we hope to have an instrument in every student's hand by this fall. The ability to play instruments will give our students the opportunity to learn the history, technique, and emotion of music firsthand. They will join together as a band to progress through music of different time periods, genres, and meanings. Most of all, we hope that our students will be able to carry music, and the skills they use to analyze it, throughout their lives.

With these trombones, our students will be motivated to persevere in pursuit of musical excellence both for themselves and individuals and for our band as a whole.

Their experience in band will open doors for them in college and career, in both music and in general team and leadership roles.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
