Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Young scientists need the chance to explore their environment. What better way to do that than to observe animals in their habitat, or plant seeds and watch them grow? My students need these materials in our classroom to help them grow as budding scientists.
I have 22 students in my first grade classroom.
They attend a public school where we work very hard to provide them with experiences they may not be getting outside of school. My students are exceptionally curious...at least once a day I find myself helping them to look up the answer to a question a classmate posed that just cannot be ignored. I also have a small population of gifted students who are in the need of a good challenge and a lot of self directed exploration and research.
My Project
I am requesting materials for a science exploration station. I requested an amphibian habitat because I would love for my students to be able to observe newts in their habitat and learn how they adapt and grow. They will also be able to observe plant life with the Root-Vue planter, which will allow them to observe the roots of plants in the soil and learn about the plant life cycle first hand. Other exploration materials requested are plant and insect specimens for observation and magnets for exploration.
It is so important at any age, but especially in the younger grades, for students to make real life connections to their learning.
These materials will help bring science to life for my students and provide them with and invaluable learning experience.
