Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need a storage bin for garden supplies, a soil testing kit, and bird feeders to successfully manage the school's vegetable garden.
My students are curious about growing their own food through vegetable gardening.
They come from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and range from ages seven though twelve. They attend a magnet elementary school in an urban area where they are able to participate in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) enrichment clubs like our school's vegetable gardening club.
My Project
The vegetable garden club allows students of all learning abilities to work collaboratively on a project that fosters intellectual enrichment and patience. As students learn harvesting cycles, the importance of soil testing, and the maintenance of organic crops, they develop a better understanding of how math, science, engineering, and technology relate to their every day lives. They literally experience developing food from seed to table within this organic vegetable garden club.
Your donation to this project moves it forward.
Generous folks like you have donated a myriad of pots, plants, seeds, organic fertilizers, soil, and stepping stones. Now we need a place to store it all. Each year a soil test needs to be taken as students analyze conditions for the upcoming planting season. They also need to keep pests, like seed eating birds, away from the vegetable garden during the sowing season. You can help make this years harvest even better than the last. Please donate.
