My students need 2 tablets to be able to watch video lectures, do online listening activities, watch authentic television and news programs, and watch cultural videos.
"I never remember what you said in class, so I do all the homework wrong, or I don't do it at all." After hearing my students come to class with these remarks, I knew I had to find a better way. So, I flipped my class. Now my students watch the lectures at home and do their homework in class.
I am a Spanish teacher in Colorado.
We have wonderful students from a variety of backgrounds, and I am proud to be their teacher.
As in most other states, budgets have made implementing the new 21st century classroom standards difficult. My students work hard every day and I want to be able to give them the best tools to help them succeed.
My Project
These tablets will enable students to learn at their own pace. There is nothing more boring to a student than being forced to listen to something over and over that they already understand. Conversely, it is heartbreaking to a student who did not understand to have to turn in an incomplete paper or give up because the rest of the class needs to move on.
Additionally, there are so many online news sources, listening activities, and cultural activities that the students could use to improve their listening and comprehension skills that I could assign if they could do the activities in class with my assistance.
Although we do have computers available in the library, availability can be an issue. Additionally, my students sometimes only need a computer for 15 minutes, so bringing everyone to the library wastes valuable class time.
Having a classroom where my students can succeed and consistently improve is always my goal.
With this technology I will be better able to help all of my students, no matter what their level, to reach their full potential. Isn't that what education is all about?
