My students need several types of art supplies to complete their museum projects. Some of these items include paper, scissors, tape, and construction paper.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
How do you explain to a child that you do not have the materials to help them with their projects?
Many of our students come from economically disadvantaged homes.
They have the desire, but often lack the necessary resources. Our school has recently become a museum magnet school. Our students participate in museum inquiry and object based learning. Every nine weeks there is a museum exhibit night where their work from the nine weeks is put on display for community members to see.
My Project
These resources will provide my students with the opportunity to create better museum quality pieces. They will be learning how to take what they have learned in class and create an exhibit piece that tells a story. In the past students have created exhibit pieces on volcanoes, earthquakes, quicksand, countries from around the world, natural resources, migration, salt maps, and other products. I want to be able to continue to create these museum products with my students. Therefore I am requesting paint, paint brushes, colored pencils, construction paper, markers, and other art supplies. I need masking tape, wall putty, and mounting tape to hang their projects. I am also requesting a table for the students to work at and I can also use it to display their projects for museum night.
Giving a donation to my project will have a huge impact on the students.
Most of my students cannot afford to buy materials on their own. Many of their families do not have the means to support the museum curriculum at my school. Creating these products gives them the opportunity for more real world learning and experiences.
