This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine a day of confusion because you have so much to do and don't know where to begin? Having the routine of entering the classroom and putting away their belongings, helps my preschoolers start their day successfully. Their thoughts are organized and their first task of the day is completed.

I teach preschoolers with Autism at a general education public elementary school.

They are funny, enthusiastic, curious and excited about learning new things. My preschoolers love being in school and sometimes do not want to go home because they are so engaged in learning. Yes, there are challenging situations but it is these challenging times that make me a stronger teacher. Dealing with challenges of autism and all that comes with it make me a better teacher.

My Project

Having a cubby for my students to use will help them become more organized. It will assist them in learning to identify their name and the letters in their name and it will facilitate following directions. Each student will be directed to find their name and put away their belongings. They will have to identify their name or the letters in their name. This may sound simple but it can be difficult for my preschoolers with Autism. They have a hard time following through and organizing their thoughts. Completing this task is comparable to completing the first task on your to do list. Once it is completed, it can be checked off and attention can be given to the next task.

Receiving this cubby is so important to the way that my preschoolers function in their classroom environment.

It is an essential part of the classroom learning experience. My students will learn how to be responsible for their belongings. They will learn organizational skills. They will learn how to follow multiple directions. They will learn not only their name and the letters in their name but the names and letters of their peers.
