Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need to be exposed to different kinds of computers so they can be ready for the 21st century. They will be inclined to listen to stories especially if they are interactive such as the one I requested. They will be familiarized with books on different kinds of media.

My students are of low income backgrounds.

They are English Learners and want to do well in school. Most of the families do not speak English. The school is composed of 20% African Americans, and 80% are Hispanic. Our school is a primary center located in a very impoverished area in Southern California.

My Project

The Nook Tablet will be put in the listening center and will be used for students so that books can be read to them. They will also be familiar with 20th century technology and will be expected to handle this piece of technology independently to listen and interact with stories. Students will be able to improve their vocabulary and listening skills. These students will probably never be in contact with this kind of media and will be more inclined and excited to read and listen to books with a different kind of book.

The tablet can also be used to teach math and access stories connected to the math program we use in the school.

The tablet is mostly for students to be exposed to different kinds of ways to read books or have books read to them.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
