This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Read it again! Read it again!" My students love to hear their favorite stories over and over again!

My kindergarten students are a diverse group of 5 and 6 year olds.

We are a Title 1 school, with several home languages represented in our classroom. Some children are already beginning to read while others are struggling to learn the alphabet. What they all have in common is that they enjoy listening to stories. There is no other time during the day when they are more engaged and excited!

My Project

My students will be able to listen to stories on CD or tape during our small group/center time. This is an excellent way for students to be engaged with quality literature on a daily basis. They will learn that the printed text is connected to oral language. They will hear great examples of fluent, expressive reading as their own reading skills are beginning to develop. Then when they are ready to draw or write about their favorite stories they need a sharpened pencil at the ready! Please, help my students get a listening center with a classroom CD player as well as a quality electric pencil sharpener.

Whether my students are native English speakers or learning English as a second language, all kindergarteners are developing language.

There is no better way than by being exposed to as much language as possible. A listening center is a great way to achieve this.
