Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are engaged in reading independently, but our current classroom library does not include non-fiction leveled E-I books. They have already mastered levels A-D and need exposure to non-fiction levels E-I to continue their success in reading at grade level.

My students come from low socio-economic homes where English is not the first language spoken at home.

They attend a Title I public school where students receive free meals. They love to read and do not have enough books to read independently. They do not always have access to the public library nor an adequate amount of books to read at home. They enjoy reading independently at levels A-D and are very proud of their successes and achievements. They want to continue moving through the next reading levels E-I that we currently do not have. They want to improve their reading fluency, comprehension skills and phonics through each differentiated reading level. They are hungry and eager for more books and want to be exposed to more non-fiction leveled E-I readers.

My Project

I have requested a non-fiction leveled E-I readers library so my students can continue their success of reading levels A-D independently. This non-fiction level E-I will greatly benefit my students. They will read independently, practice their fluency, phonics and further develop their comprehension skills. My first grade students will be on their way to reading on grade level with this much needed non-fiction leveled readers library.

My students need this non-fiction leveled E-I readers library because it will help improve their fluency, phonics and comprehension skills.

My students will continue reading independently and reach reading on grade level through each leveled reader. This library will further enhance their love for reading and success for second grade.
