Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Teacher, teacher when is it my turn to use the computer?" Imagine a class of 24 third graders trying to share a 1998 iMac G3 computer. The majority of my students do not have a computer at home and they are hungry for computer literacy.
My 3rd grade students are vibrant and active learners attending a bustling urban school.
They enjoy reading, having discussions on Science and Social Science topics, and working cooperatively on class projects. In particular, my students like and are excited by using computers as a learning tool.
My Project
Having an additional up to date computer in the classroom will increase the time my students can access a computer. With more access time, students will be able to use the computer to access various educational websites to enhance their knowledge, improve literacy skills, practice Math skills, and do research. As my class begins a unit on the Solar System, I envision they will be able to use the computer to complete their planet research project and create a PowerPoint presentation.
Today's world runs on computers.
Students who do not have experience with computers are at a disadvantage. By using computers student are learning independence, a vitally important skill, and gaining confidence in their own abilities to help themselves. Computer literacy will help students be better prepared for life.
