My Students

Struggling readers need to read more to improve their skills, but the challenges they face often keep them from reading! I see their frustrations and want to provide a simpler avenue for practice so they can feel confident and succeed.

My students are 7th and 8th graders who face a multitude of challenges ranging from language acquisition (English learners), economic, and special needs.

My students struggle with reaching proficiency in reading and writing. We are in a Title 1 school with a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced lunch.

My Project

This Hi-Lo Passages workbook will help provide my students with more practice as they read short passages to improve their reading comprehension skills. These activities will be a great supplement to our CA standards based curriculum. With students expected to take standardized tests so often, practicing reading will help boost their comprehension and allow them to feel more confident not only in English, but in all content areas!

With practice workbooks of their own, my struggling readers can take ownership of their own learning and begin to explore the exciting world of reading and life long learning!

This will be an exciting opportunity for learning and growth.
