Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever met a kid that was really smart, but lacked the skills and motivation necessary to be successful? My students are intelligent kids with learning disabilities which have made it more difficult for them to keep up with their grade level peers.

My students are smart, funny, energetic individuals that just happen to have difficulties in basic reading skills and understanding what they read.

Many of the books that they have access to are not geared toward students with learning difficulties. They want to read! They want to get better at reading, but without books that are on their level, it is very difficult for them to develop the skills they need to progress and be successful in all of their classes. My students come from low-income families and neighborhoods. I became a teacher because I want to help end the cycle of poverty, to help inspire students to find their own power and voice. My students with disabilities are often given little choice in their learning lives; viewed as statistics, they are left behind by a system that believes all students come to school with the same skills and abilities. These students need to be given the chance to be successful and develop literate lives.

My Project

Please help me put books in my students' hands that they will love! Please help to empower my students. By donating to my project, you will enable me to provide my students with a variety of high interest books that will allow them to develop literate lives.

Without books that my students can actually sit down and read, they will not be able to further develop their reading skills nor will they be able to develop an intrinsic, treasured relationship with reading.

By contributing books, bean bag chairs and exercise balls, you can help provide them with motivation to continue their academic lives.
