Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever wondered how does a computer work? How about a tablet? Today our students need the technology and knowledge of how new gadgets work.

I am a first grade teacher with twenty wonderful students.

These students are a group of enthusiastic learners. 100% of my students are on free or reduced lunch. Our school is a Title I school which means that most if not all of our students have socioeconomic challenges. Their parents are great parents and they work very hard to provide the best education for their children. However, they can not afford to have any technology at home. Many of my parents do not even have a computer thus, many students have limited resources that can help their learning at home. Besides socioeconomic barriers my students also are English Learners whose parents speak very little English. This is the reason why a music library with lots of literary support will be conducive to learning English and vocabulary faster. Not to mention, the right intonation to the English words and phrases.

My Project

My students by nature are inquisitive and ask many questions. When they see a new devise, they immediately ask what it is. The same nature to ask questions is what makes them good students. Most of them though, are not expose to technology at home. It is up to the classroom teachers to expose them to technology. Due to budget cuts in our school districts, technology takes a back seat. I believe that the addition of a tablet to my class will be beneficial in all academic subjects. I can use it to provide visuals of animals, maps, famous people, and pictures of themselves. Furthermore, I can connect it to my document reader and teach them reading strategies, spelling patterns, vocabulary, and reading fluency. The usage of a tablet in a classroom are infinite and its benefit to my students' learning is priceless.

I need your kindness and generosity to provide my class with all the benefits a table offers.

We will use it to its fullest so I need your help to enhance my student's reading skills. I know that people like you who contribute to websites like the Donors Choose Organization do it because you care about children. Children are our future and it's up to us to guide them in a positive, nurturing path that will yield excellent citizens. Help me, help my students get technology in my class.
