This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is full of motivated, curious and expressive students. However, these budding wordsmiths and scientific investigators lack the reference books they need to boost their vocabulary and hone their writing and research skills.

My students are a culturally and economically diverse group who share a genuine enthusiasm for learning, discovering and experimenting.

Unfortunately, budget cuts have hit our public school hard, and though we have dedicated families who are striving to raise funds, many essential classroom materials are beyond our reach.

My Project

A classroom set of thesauruses, illustrated science and math dictionaries will give my students the tools they need to explore content area concepts and vocabulary and to discover the depth and richness of language. Having thesauruses readily available at their desk when we explore weekly vocabulary words, and work on writing assignments, reports and projects will empower them to take charge of their own learning. They will learn to discern nuance and expand their use of language from vague clichés to more precise terms.

Learning to use reference materials will help my students become independent learners and self-sufficient researchers.

These resources will also help them to bring their writing to a new level. This will serve them well for success in school and life. Thank you for caring about my students and your support for this project.
