This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We need another computer! My 34 students eagerly await their turn to be able to sit and do research on a computer in our room. We have two computers for the classroom; a third is a borrowed computer I bring every day to increase the students' opportunity to use technology to enrich their learning.

I am daily amazed at their enthusiasm for learning. They attend a large magnet elementary school in a large city, and represent over 10 different countries, including Iran, Morocco, Russia, Korea, China, Mexico, Guatemala, Ghana, Ethiopia, and the U.S. Many students are in homes struggling to make ends meet, and some do not own a computer. In spite of many challenges, together we work hard to master all we are intended to know and learn... and much more. One key tool toward this goal is technology, particularly computers. A favorite "job" in the class is "researcher"; students wait for a turn to sit at a computer and conduct research that they then share with the class. With only 2 computers, plus one that I have borrowed and bring in each day, each child has a chance every 10 weeks to have this researching job. Another computer would allow the job to become more frequent, and the inspiration and learning to increase considerably!

My Project

We are on this website because we understand at least to a degree the importance of education for our children, and we want to make a difference. In an increasingly technological era, there are still 5th graders who don't own a computer, and whose only opportunity to research online and to learn the skills necessary to fulfill their tasks related to technology are in school. However, for 34 students to share 3 computers (one that is borrowed and brought in each day) is very limiting. With your generous gift, we can increase bright students' opportunity to learn to make technology work for them, learning invaluable information through active research. One computer will allow a 33% increase in computer time for each student. Thank you for your support in making this dream a reality!
