My students need 20 visual dictionaries as a quick reference to support their comprehension during read-alouds.

My Students

Have you ever tried to learn a foreign language and thought "I will never get this!!!" Well unfortunately that's exactly how my students feel while reading during their state testing, aka the E.O.G.

As first year drama students, I realized that reading for my students was a chore, rather than a joy.

They see reading as a punishment and are disconnected from the vast images that words can show. Their sense of imagination has been deactivated and it's now my challenge to help them visualize words into worlds again.

My Project

So far, students enjoy reading scripts because they know in a moment we will be able to live these words up on stage. In an effort to activate their senses while they read, I would like to provide students with references of their passage in sight, sound, taste, touch, smell. Providing students with a visual dictionary will be an excellent source of sight sensation, especially when introduced to new vocabulary words. Students will be able to live in their passages and to eventually do so without all the special effects. The goal is to have them create the special effects in their minds every time they read.

In this day and age, video games rule!

I want to make reading like a video game, activating every sense, and providing a world where they don't have to just play the game, but can create their own. Donating to this project will provide these students with the beginning stages of activating their imaginations. Help me make books like scripts. Passages can be lived again, this is the first step.
