My Students

Can you imagine what it means to a 2d grade class to get away from the textbooks for a while, and create a colorful, 3-D mural of what they are learning in history? I remember having a teacher who made that happen for me when I was in second grade. It was incredibly exciting!

students are learning how to express themselves and everything they learn in school. They need art supplies so that they can demonstrate understanding of important classroom activities in ways that tests and drills do not. All of our students are 100% lunch-funded, which means that ours is a high-need school

My Project

We want to recreate history on our Erie Canal mural. We just learned a song telling many of the details of how it was built and maintained, and now we want to show off for our parents that we understand exactly what we are singing about. Right now our school does not have a budget for art supplies. I want to teach my students the skills I have learned over the years as an artist. I want them to feel what it's like to use excellent materials. The tempura paints, brushes, and paper I have selected will make this possible for them. Since I have a professional art background, I can model techniques they can use all their lives.

Once we have the art supplies, we will have a mural-making workshop.

Then we will immediately use what we learn to make a mural called "Traveling on the Erie Canal" about local history in New York. We will be collaborating with the Bronx County Historical Society for this project, and all of our families and friends can come and see our work. You can make this happen! The supplies will be received with great appreciation!
