Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Music is a powerful tool for communication in my classroom. For some of my non-verbal students, music gives them a voice to communicate. It also enhances participation and motivation for all students. My classroom is in need of more musical activities that will enhance language skills.

My students are intelligent, beautiful, and creative individuals who also have autism.

Some of my students are non-verbal and depend on alternate forms of communication to participate throughout the day in their public elementary school. For all of my students, communication and socialization can be extremely difficult. It is absolutely vital that as educators, we implement a variety of motivating and relevant activities that will help our students succeed.

My Project

My students light up when we are able to pair educational activities with music. All of a sudden my non-verbal students are singing along with our songs and participating in movement. My verbal students are motivated by the musical activities and use these songs throughout the day as tools for reading, math, and writing. It is a great feeling to know that you have every student's attention and that you are finding creative and purposeful ways to strengthen skills.

Communication does not have to be a constant barrier for my students.

With your donation, we can give these students the opportunity to participate and retain crucial skills. I have seen my students use music to write their numbers for the first time, or to spell words. It has been an effective tool for reading and socialization as well.
