My Students

Have you ever tried to convince a child that they will one day LOVE to READ?? That is my battle as a 5th grade teacher. I want my kids to enjoy reading and do it on a daily basis. I want them to read because they enjoy it, not because I have assigned them something to read.

Located in a PK-5 Grade Elementary School in Central Alabama, I have a classroom of 18 wonderful, beautiful 5th grade students.

They have worked extremely hard and are a very, determined group of students. We have a great time everyday and they truly enjoy learning!

My Project

As a 5th grade teacher, teaching in a poverty stricken area, I have set many goals for myself and my students. Goal #1:My goal for myself is to instill a love for learning in my students. As adults, we all know that we learn by reading. I want my students to have the freedom to choose their own reading literature and actually enjoy what they are reading. With the Time for Kids and Weekly Reader Subscriptions we will achieve those goals. Goal #2:I want to engage my students in as many "hands-on" activities as possible. With the supplies we are requesting, we will be able to definitely participate in many different active lessons. With the over-sized Post-It notes we will conduct weekly Vocabulary Carousels to introduce our Robust Vocabulary. The post-its will be placed around the room and the students will partner and rotate every few seconds to quickly write a definition, sentence, etc for each new word. This requires the large post-its and also markers.

I am surrounded by 18 loving students for 7 hours - 5 days a week at a PK-5 school in Central Alabama.

As a first year teacher, my heart has been won by this group of 5th graders. My goal as their teacher is to prove to them that the sky is the limit in life. I want them all to strive for excellence and high achievement. We are in a poverty stricken area and things aren't always on the "Bright" side for them. With Donors Choose we will make this possible!! Thank you for your support!
