My Students

Do you think your vote makes a difference? Ask President, George W. Bush. He won the 2000 Presidential election by the narrowest of margins. The 2012 Presidential election will provide an opportunity for my students to actively participate in the election process.

My students are seventh graders, who live in a predominately military community.

Their lives are directly affected by the decisions of our government leaders. Our community is also experiencing rapid population growth. We are moving from a small community based school to one that is experiencing overcrowded classrooms and marginally adequate facilities. My students thrive with hands-on learning and active participation in concepts being taught. They are an extremely inquisitive and bright group of seventh graders.

My Project

I am requesting 3 Presidential Election Kits, along with supplemental material concerning elections to better educate my students on the election process. The Presidential Election of 2012 is very important to my students' future. The resources I am requesting will provide an opportunity for my students to actively participate in mock elections, paralleling the 2012 election. This activity, over the course of several months, provides an ideal means for my students to develop their understanding, knowledge, and critical thinking skills needed to positively affect how our government (local, state, national) leaders are elected.

Following candidates' positions and plans to tackle major issues will encourage students to open dialogue and begin developing their own opinions.

I hope to ignite my students interests in the upcoming Presidential Election and realize the power of one vote.
