My Students

My students love to have time with manipulatives during math time. I have found that they learn with excitement and retain the concepts taught when they have hands on experiences. They are limited in their choices due to my classroom's lack of math manipulatives. I would love to expand this area.

My students are wonderful!

I have 22 children in my class with varying abilities. I love teaching them because they are a joy. My class this year is a well balanced mix of ability levels. When allowed to work in math centers, my students are engaged learners and tend to stay on task and work with each other well. I believe my students are great candidates for this type of donation. They are respectful with the items that are currently in my math area and use them appropriately.

My Project

If my class were to receive these math manipulatives, the opportunities for them to learn math would expand greatly. Kindergarteners learn well through hands on learning. Math is an area in which this type of learning can facilitate understanding. Students can visualize time by using sand timers, manipulate fun objects to learn to count, and have hands on tools to learn to measure. Learning through play is the most effective method I have found to teach this age.

Due to lack of funding and resources available to me this year, this project would be a great way for my students to have the materials that could benefit them in math.

My students have to share the few math toys that I do have, and I am missing some teaching tools from the math area that I feel could be beneficial to my students such as the measuring tools and sand timers. The items that I have requested will help my students to learn math and have fun doing it.
